Yea, but its not all that subtle is it?

I used to marvel when the news constantly said how clever Bill Clinton was with words:

Q:  Have you ever had sex with that woman?
A:  I am not having sex with that woman?

....and the news would comment how careful Clinton was with his words and how hard he was to pin on any point.  To me, it was an outright declaration he had slept with that woman.

Not clever at all.  Who, just who is fooled by such transparency?  Note:  I don't think this depends on what "is" means.

Actually, most of these techniques would not catch me at times when I have the interest level to really read an article. Some might get me somewhat on articles or headlines I skim. The one that actually probably hits me personally the hardest is probably the photo thing. I would recognize it immediately in cases like the photos of Hillary Clinton. There it is obvious, even if shown only one of the photos. But, the candidate in the kitchen is scary. The two photos really do leave a different impression and the only difference is cropping of the image. And, it's subtle enough that I might not notice it.

Keeping these techniques in mind when reading any article can only be a good thing. Thanks for sharing ECA.
