Both are equally sentient. One has greater cognitive ability. Is more better? Or, is ignorance bliss? Vonnegut, in the book Galapagos if I remember correctly, pointed out that humans have exactly the wrong size brains.* If our brains were larger, we might be smart enough not to get into all the trouble we do. If our brains were smaller, we couldn't.

* Note: Obviously he was using brain size as a synonym for cognitive function, which it isn't, at least within our species. Though, EQ appears to be the best approximation for interspecies smarts we've come up with. I'm trying to avoid using the word intelligence since the best definition of intelligence appears to be that which intelligence tests measure (MAMBIT, mental abilities measured by intelligence tests). This leaves out critical thinking, logical thinking, veridical thinking, and creative thinking, among many other types of smarts.

Oh ... and I'd like to change my prior "no" to "yes".

Are you not going to look up sentience or click my link to it and acknowledge that you were using the word incorrectly? Just curious. You claimed on another thread that not checking the dictionary is a logical fallacy. (I actually don't agree but only because the flaw is a simple error unrelated to logic, IMHO.)

Fair call Scotty--I did use the word incorrectly.  When you don't use these words very often, its easy to misuse them.

Same with word definitions:  not a logic issue, but an argument issue.  I was joking there though, as I assume you know.

So---always a mix of things.  Worthwhile to note, its hard to learn if you don't admit to error.
