DC plug no longer fits---how is this possible??=Solution FOUND. Yay!
« on: April 30, 2012, 06:23:41 AM » by bobbo
I have an HP ScanJet G4050 I bought for its 35 mm slide scanning capability.  16 slides at a time with excellent quality.  Just what I wanted.  I have converted about 2000 of a relatives slides to digital and made slide shows of the various vacations for distribution to family members.  That was about six months ago.  I unplugged the unit and put it on the shelf.  Now, I want to use it again for simply scanning but the power plug, a standard ac to dc plug, the male type that has a hole in the center to fit into the scanner==hey, actually its kinda an hermorphadite plug--could be male or female or both depending on how concerntric you focus on it===but anyway, the plug will not fit almost like one or more holes has shrunk, or gotten corroded, the very center wire that is in the hole in the scanner appears to be dead center or not bent.  The plug fits into other similar recepticles on other equipment like my router.  The router male plug power supply will also not fit into my scanner.

Whats wrong and how to fix it?  I've googled about 2 hours and got nothing.

What are you worrying for? You are not getting out of this life alive, dead don't hurt, getting there might, and in some cases, damn well should!
Plus during and after the next Ice Age, all of this infrastructure around us won't matter squat!

Solution Found--While I label all my transformers for ease of identification, I do have 2, two, TWO, HP Scanners and I used the older model transformer.  The one that works "looks" just the same even on very careful examination with a magnifying glass but it is just a hair off in some way.  Thats my military/fly boy experience kicking in===never force anything unless you "know."  While I thought I was correct, I wasn't absolute about it.  Now==I'll go back and put the model number on my label as well.

Why make mistakes if you can't learn from them?
