It can also be stated as: "to spy or not to spy, is not the question! And whom has been spied upon is immaterial!

Recently I received an email joke about the current proliferation of higher technology developments regards electronic snooping. As you scroll further down it states that there is almost always some A**hole looking at you, then a naked female buttocks comes into view with an eyeball in the anal sphincter winking at you. Photoshop is a priceless tool![too bad it would be deemed inappropriate to post here in!]

iF YOU KNOW A BIT ABOUT THE usa PAST..

Its very interesting.
In WWII, the USA was helping and assisting the USSR, to get going on building The military up.
BOTH SIDES were friendly..
USSR found a few spies..PISSED them off BADLY.

The best spy, ISNT a spy..  Its a person who picks up information along HIS JOB..  And OUR spy industry has forgotten this.
They are TRYING to use TECHNOLOGY.  ANd some of the ASSUMPTIONS they make are STUPID..
YES, you can take pictures of things from 10-20+ miles UP..  You can Identify a few things..  But 1 building looks LIKE another.(yes we hit a SCHOOL)
AND you cant IDENTIFY a PICTURE on the ground of a missile, from a REAL missile.

ECA, you are absolutely correct on that one! I worked for many years for a man who had been a WW2 British trained counter Intel. type. He was a 1st generation Ukrainian Cdn. and they taught him to read, write, speak Russian thoroughly. He shadowed a Russian Major for much of WW2, and was an alternate interpreter at the Yalta Conference. what he and all of the rest of our Western Intelligence types missed was an article in the front page of a Russian Newspaper [Tass or Pravda or?] that used the Russian word for Tritium which was unknown to all translators at that time. Because of this miss step, there was less emphasis on getting German Nuclear Scientists out of Germany amongst willing defectors than rocket scientists, etc. That word for Tritium if known would have tipped our side off that the Russians were doing nuclear research towards making a bomb, too!
And meanwhile it has also been discovered that the Japanese were only 6 weeks behind America in their efforts at making a nuclear device. Much this was captured when the Russian Army over ran Vladivostok! History has some weird quirks and turns. There is a small book I read [from the Oshawa Public Library] about various commando raids which impacted the course of WW2. The Heroes of Telmarek, the Italian 2 man subs, and a Cdn Naval Lt. Cmd. who invented the paddle boards for the original frog men. He led a whole regiment across the Irrawaddy River at night under Japanese fire, without losing a man! Plus some more incidents, like the wounding of German General Student in his paratroop assault and capture of a big part of Holland. A Dutch sniper had killed Gen. Student's Aide and wounded him because he mistook the rank insignia!  Hitler was not impressed with the superb success of that operation and did not press ahead with paratroop invasions, specifically great Britain! Then the Allies captured the Enigma Machine for creating codes from the Japanese and Germany so that they could now understand the radio transmissions. Acting in such a manner to not reveal these coups was a brilliant bit of work, too! All of this history is a fabulous study in the mental abilities of Homo Sap!

History can be taught and LOVED...but SCHOOL SUCKS..
In my day there was 3-4 pages on Korea and LESS on Vietnam..(60-70's(school))

Esp. when you ADD TRUTH and the WHOLE story to what is happening.

Iv told a few people about Shakespeare, LEARN what was happening at the time..then a few things pop out at you.

Very nice review Obtuser.  "For the want of a nail...horseshoe...horse...rider...info...battle ... war."  Things really do hand all together in a very chaotic way.  I don't even start to know enough to start rank ordering what was really key in winning the war.  Very near the top:  high production of war material?  but everything you list is on the list.  so many unsung heroes, but history marches on.

Here is one you would not have guessed. A Swedish American name Hendrikson designed and built the first power divider tandem axle drive bogey assembly for trucks prior to WW2 and that allowed the American made 6 x 6 Deuce and a Halfs to transport men and material much further and faster than ever before in worse terrain!

I have never driven one, but have more than a million miles in my back pocket driving Class 8 commercial models! They say you are not a real driver until you have at least 300K over the road, and I tend to agree.
Gen. D.D. Eisenhower knew the value of the ability to move men and material, hence as President his Interstate Highway Legislation which has built the America we know today. He was the first Master of Logistics!
