  Dual Monitors
« on: June 30, 2007, 07:24:31 PM » by laineypie
Hey, I'm dying to get dual monitors at my job since I run like 7 different programs at once and it's annoying as hell to tab between em. I'm trying to set it up in my house first so if I take the monitors to work I know it will be an easy install. For some reason it's not working and it's pissing me off. I have the adapter I need, I downloaded the drivers I need for my vid card, and both of them are set up. I run the install and it seems like  it works for a second, the second monitor will flash on but thats it nothing shows up on the screen, and then it very quickly returns to hibernate mode. Anyone have any suggestions on doing this sort of thing?

Would this be an application better suited to dual core and quad core units?

My question is academic, but now that I reviewed the thread starter, my mind wanders! Then I noticed the avatar! If you want to see my avatar in action, all you need to do to is visit MrGilly's 2 videos of Lakota

http://yourscene.latimes.com/mycapture/photos/Album.aspx?EventID=471607&CategoryID=37437

Lakota will talk or sing to you if you click on either of those videos. She is a Siberian Husky/ Malamute back/cross. Just great with people, or kids, but gets bossy with other dogs, and has no respect for skunks, squirrels, or cats! When I visit my Son and his dog in London, Ont., if I walk her in the rain you can still smell the skunk in her fur from last April!

wouldnt matter to much.
AS if you are gaming, it can only go thru 1 core.  the display to 2 monitors is nothing.  its more depending on hte Vid card.

OK. I learned that this machine has an "R" chip not a "D" chip from Dell. A Dell certified tech told me over the phone that it has a slower clock, but it can do more things at the same time. I just am too much of a rookie to get it to boogie!

I tried to post a picture out of my pictures and cannot get it to do that. On the thread were they discussed that the DC-3 Douglass airframe is so over designed and still airworthy it was mentioned about retrofits with turbo props. Well I have several shots taken at Enterprise Airlines Terminal here in the Schwaa showing just that, but the images will not copy. I have another gem that is a photoscan of a calendar page in Dec. which could go in the transportation theme as guess this! That one has too many bytes. I need to remember how to crop it to see if it can fit.

Wife worked for them, so got the discount! My Son built his own from different off the shelf parts, but has issues with the quality of power sources. Has gone through at least 3 or 4, but now has an Acer laptop as his main use machine. Daughter/Son in-law now have a quad core using Vista. He is one of the few I have heard say he likes Vista, now that he is familiar with it and comfortable using it. I was born 40 years too early, I guess!
I will probably sign up for a couple more courses at the Senior Citizens Center next month to add to my confusion!
I can understand why people want to use Photoshop to enhance, clean up and perfect their digital pictures, but as an old QC lab boy, the evidence should not be tampered with! So my collection of pixels is sorted and original!
Several shots I took before retiring from the highways were at full speed on the interstates with amazing clarity! Those are part of the trophy collection!

ECA,

My Dell XPS laptop has been excellent for five years.  I bought a powerful one so it wouldn't go out of date too quickly.  I still can't find a screen as high-rews as this one: 1920x1200  HD format.

Mr. Gilly,

The best way to post photos on here is to get a free account with one of the photo sites, post your photo there and link from here to there. You can also upload your photo directly by selecting the Additional Options... in edit but that's not as good.

Both attempts were using images with too large a cache? That is why they were refused! When I get unlazy, I will play around with the cropping tool to reduce the overall picture and see if they can be accommodated, but I think it is far too large to get down to the max of 128? from the 750 range.

Im sorry to hear you have a dell.

I have a couple of Dells including my current workhorse, which has been used 10+ hours a day, almost 365 days a year for three years without problems. I'm about to buy another in my search for ever more power.

A couple of points: choice is more limited here, especially since I'm too busy/lazy to go shopping around - Dell delivers to my door. And there may be cheaper/better looking/more powerful/whatever machines around, but Dells come with a good guarantee scheme. Since I depend on my computers for my living, this is important to me.

Re dual monitors: instead of going this route, I bought a massive panoramic monitor (also Dell) so I can see various open windows simultaneously. Works just fine.

My laptop almost matches that.  It's 1920x1200 and 17". I don't think Dell makes anything with that high of a resolution any more.
