The closest opposite of Rush is Bill Maher (HBO Real Time) although Bill is not as far left as Rush is far right. 

Contrary to John's take about few on the left being able to carry the left position with humor and satire, Bill Maher continuously skewers Republicans, conservatives and the Christian evangelicals regularly on his shows.   If you haven't caught up with him lately, listen to the Real Time podcasts (unfortunately thru Itunes only - yuk), especially the last 5 minutes of each show for the "New Rules" segments.   These are as witty, humorous and politically edgy as it gets. 

Luv the podcast although I don't know exactly why.   It's kind of like the 58th person at a smorgasborg.   All the really good stuff is gone and what's left is eclectic and oddly palatable except for the really bad stuff that gets ignored.

I truly enjoy Bill Maher but if I had to vote for wittiest, most humorous and most politically edgy, I'd have to go with Lewis Black.

Among those who are as far to the Left as Rush is to the Right, humor is nonexistent.

I take it you're referring to people like Joe Stalin and Mao? I always considered those two guys so far Left, they're back with Rush on the Right again and you're correct, I sure never read anything funny about either of them.

I've never pondered it seriously but I suppose nonexistent humor is one of the main reasons I lump all extremists together in the same virtual concentration camp in my head. If you're unable to laugh at things and you won't allow anyone else to laugh at things, in my opinion your philosophy is just wrong on general principles.
