Price Of Asian Success Is Increased Pollution For The US
« on: September 04, 2008, 11:15:52 AM » by oz4me
From Yahoo News And McClatchy Newspapers

From Wired Autopia

From 500 miles in space, satellites track brown clouds of dust, soot and other toxic pollutants from China and elsewhere in Asia as they stream across the Pacific and take dead aim at the western U.S. A fleet of tiny, specially equipped unmanned aerial vehicles, launched from an island in the East China Sea 700 or so miles downwind of Beijing , are flying through the projected paths of the pollution taking chemical samples and recording temperatures, humidity levels and sunlight intensity in the clouds of smog.
On the summit of 9,000-foot Mt. Bachelor in central Oregon and near sea level at Cheeka Peak on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula , monitors track the pollution as it arrives in America.
By some estimates more than 10 billion pounds of airborne pollutants from Asia — ranging from soot to mercury to carbon dioxide to ozone — reach the U.S. annually. The problem is only expected to worsen: Some Chinese officials have warned that pollution in their country could quadruple in the next 15 years.

Air goes around the world every three weeks. That sweet smell of success will be everywhere not to mention the damage but hey, it may stall global warming.

I suppose it's just too obvious to mention the cliché about 'chickens coming home to roost'.

First you give them your job, then you buy their cheap, useless, crap goods, then you choke on the toxic dust byproduct of their cheap, useless, crap goods.

Other clichés that come to mind as appropriate for many reasons are 'serves us right' and 'payback is a bitch'.

It's too bad they don't label stuff on line as Made in China.  I buy stuff from American companies and when it shows up, yeah, you guessed it... Made in China.  Crap!

On Friday I purchased a couple more of those cloth bags, to replace the ubiquitous plastic shopping bags, blowing endlessly across the country, getting stuck high in the trees and generally just messing up the entire planet.

When I got them outside, I ripped off the tags and hidden deep down inside, right at the very bottom, I found small white labels that said "Made in China".

Aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!! We can't even make an 89 cent cloth bag anymore? What the fuck is wrong with us?
