North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.

Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.

South Korea will expedite the introduction of high-tech unmanned aerial surveillance systems and "bunker-buster" bombs in response to North Korea's provocations, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said, citing unidentified ruling party members.

In Beijing, top U.S. and Chinese defense officials also discussed North Korea. U.S. Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy was heading next to Tokyo and Seoul for talks.

South Korea has proposed high-level "consultations" to discuss North Korea with the U.S., Russia, China and Japan.

Have these people gone nuts?  Do they want a glass country?

I'll do my best to quote Heinlein from memory. I couldn't find the exact quote. Perhaps someone else will and will correct me. It was something like this.

It has long been known that if you put too many of an animal in one cage, they will go crazy. Homo sapiens is the only species that does this to itself.

I think we're seeing the results of too many humans in one cage in a variety of ways. This just may be the worst example of it ... so far. Brace yourself.

its hard to believe..

but looking at past history and the USA..
we have been restricting trade with N. Korea for along time..
and I think KJI, is getting tired and Ill, as well as OLD..

That could make him very dangerous. He probably thinks he doesn't have much time to prove his penis is bigger than President Obama's penis.

In the end, that's what all wars come down to - two alpha males beating on their chests like silverbacks. To the rest of us, it's very tiresome but dangerous and sometimes deadly.

I doubt President Obama is ever going to play this game. Why nuke an entire country, just because the leader has penis size insecurities? On the other hand, I can see Obama turning the entire so-called country into a plate of glass if he feels it's necessary.

I disagree. Michelle Obama is smarter than that to let Barrack get sucked in on this game. She is one very sharp lady beyond the wardrobe, and I mean in the I.Q. dept.
The first smart move is to deflect all of this onto China. North Korea is in it's backyard. If Kim Sung Ill gets to be a more serious problem, then figure out a way to make it China's problem and not ours. We have paid out dues in this regard.
Second, make a point of luring other nations into being the potential recipients of major bonuses for taking the embargo to new levels.
Third, spread a rumor in North Korea, that if they overthrow the leadership , they will all get free food, medicine,  and clothing from the South and the US.
This is a nation that has a track record worse than all other dictatorships in the whole world in the last century. It is over due for a drastic change of leadership.
But for once in the last century, let some other country take the lead and the responsibility to carry the can.
 

Yes, it is China's gig if Korea gets too noisy. The other card to play is keep Japan [it is a joker or wild card] quiet. That seems to be in place, unless I missed something. Same thing goes for Taiwan.

Agreed. Communist China protected and fostered North Korea, plus allowed it to become this monster regime which is in fact an extension of it's self gone more terribly wrong. Now they should be the ones to wear the mess!
But this has limits. If Kim badly yodeled, does send a weapon at or near Hawaii, then it will be passed the line in the sand or water or what ever, TOO LATE, pull the plug, and smoke em. Just one thermonuclear H fusion weapon takes  out the head of the snake and the rest of peninsula rolls over. Let China occupy it and clean it up! It is not worth one more North American life!

THE real PROBLEM IS THE PROPAGANDA that KJI has been passing around for ALONG time ABOUT hoW THE OTHER NATIONS AROUND THEM ARE wanting TO FIGHT AND BEAT UP North KOREA..and reading his nation for a WAR that has never come.

IF' I was to go into war with them, I would START with blow horns and speakers telling his nation THAT we are only going after KJI and his cronies..  They need to have a NEW ruler and find him fast...DONT TAKE the country away from THE PEOPLE...  Scream as loud as we can that we dont want war, and we only come for the MISERABLE IDIOT..

I absolutely agree but if they do a nuclear 'test' somewhere near the Hawaiian Islands, I think even Michelle Obama is going to have a difficult time convincing U.S. citizens, including her husband, including most Canadians, a massive retaliation isn't necessary.
