  Name that Wing!
« on: November 13, 2009, 06:45:21 PM » by Crypto64
This wing is hanging on the wall in my university's commercial aviation building. Anyone have any idea what kind of aircraft it may have been used with. I don't see any ailerons, but there is a wire running the length of the wing to a light on the right side. It's obviously very old and nobody in the department knows where it came from.

A number of the older plains at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome have wings that are reshaped by wires in the wings rather than having ailerons. I'm just guessing that you're probably looking for something a little newer than this one.

Unfortunately, I'm having a tough time finding a list of their planes or photos of them. I may have to check my own photos from a recent trip there (which was cut short when one of the antique planes crashed into the trees). Or, if KD is feeling up to blogging, he may chime in.

Here's a possible candidate:

MMMMMMThe Funk Aircraft Company of Coffeyville, Kansas developed this F2B-85C from the company's prewar model. The one shown here was manufactured in 1947. Joe and Howard Funk started building the Funk B in Akron, Ohio under the name of the Akron Aircraft Company before moving back to Coffeyville in 1941.MMMMMM
