There are only nine numbers between 1 and 100 that 11 divides into evenly, and they are 11,22,33,44,55,66,77,88,99. There are also only eight numbers in that same range whose digits combine to equal 11, and they are 29,38,47,56,65,74,83,92. Therefore, there is only a 17% chance, (8+9) / 100, that a random number between 1 and 100 will either be divisible by 11 or have its digits add up to 11.
Let us take some not so random names of celebrites who have died recently and add the numeric values of the letters in their names (A=1,B=2...Z=26) to their death dates, and then combine the digits together.
For instance, Michael Jackson died on 6/25/09. Forget about the year.
The letters in "MICHAEL" are (M=13,I=9,C=3,H=8,A=1,E=5,L=12), so, MICHAEL = (1 + 3 + 9 + 3 + 8 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 2) = 33. Get it?
Now, JACKSON = 31 from (101311191514) and 6/25 = 13 from (625).
Combine the names with the death date and you get 33 + 31 + 13 = 74, and (7+4) = 11
An easier way to look at that is:

I saw a recent story about Roger Ebert which made me think of the guy who used to sit across the couch from him,

(That is small sample of all the 11's in 9/11. For instance, flight 11 had 11 crew members and a total of 92 passengers, but I don't want to bore you with all of the minutia, just demonstrate that either the number 11 is a statistical abberation or we are being dominated by aliens from the secret 11th planet in our solar system.
