Partial Quote:
Oh yeah. You may not have noticed that there's no mention of raw materials in this mythical place. So, just like our capitalist economy, the economists think that you can have infinite growth on a finite planet. So, both are flawed in this regard.
unquote.
Another flaw occurs when a shortage of a material develops, then as prices rise, it becomes more profitable to mine, pump, farm, lower quality ore, oil bearing strata, poorer soil land, etc. Hence it becomes partially self correcting.
Fifty years ago, it would not have been profitable to mine some of these lower grade Copper ores, or drill/frac the oil shales, or farm some of the poorer soils without the fertilizers we now use! Thus the bar is moved and less finite!
[The Oil Sands, too, were uneconomic to develop, and to this day are being subsidized by our Cdn. taxpayers. Many of us resent that the bitumen / pseudo crude oil is sold for less than it cost to produce once you factor in the Cdn. subsidies. You Americans should be forced to pay more for our national heritage that is being squandered so that goofs and clowns can race around in 4x4 mudders, and high speed SUVs on expensive massive freeways. Go frac your own shale in Colorado, if you must frac!]

Is life supposed to have a purpose or point? And who said so? Many people drift from one day to the next, not knowing or caring what tomorrow brings! If you don't get the picture, think of a blob, it is pointless!
You come into this World without your permission, and in most cases leave it without your consent! You did not make or create anything, or yourself,  just rearrange(d) what is already here!

Unless you can communicate with someone on the "other side" you do not get to know if there is another side! [ignoring those who "hear" voices, and "see" things allegedly paranormal!

Scott, why do you assume that there will be extras, left overs, surpluses? In spite of economic incentives of gross profit, the reality is that many items, would be in short supply if the purchasing means were unlimited for all living persons! Likewise, there are those who regardless of incentives, choose to loaf, take time off, or pursue personal / recreational activities! Not everyone is motivated to the daily grind for greater gains! We are often reminded of those who are in dire need, but there are many other situations, too! One lesson that is not well learned in our society is that judging others by ourselves often leads to false assumptions and miscalculations! It is when these misconceptions clash, that society suffers upheavals and discontinuities! It takes an exceptional mind to be capable of the widest overview to comprehend the real whole picture!

34  Water Cooler / Tasteless or Not Tasteless / Re: POST OFFICE
« on: June 08, 2013, 06:03:02 PM »

I was talking to a person that drives RURAL post office routes..
They recently got 1 of those JEEP conversion trucks..SHE loves it except for 1 small thing..
Can anyone answer WHY??
This little Jeep gets about 10-15mpg??

Its a modified military jeep frame..and can ONLY be touched/fixed by certain companies..and its 4wheel drive.
THIS THING DOES not HAVE A v8 3LITER MOTOR IN IT..  yES ITS STOP AND GO, BUT THE MAIL BOXES ARE ABOUT 1 MILE APART..
I see few reason why this thing cant get 30+ MPG..
Upon further thought, it occurs that you are probably in a very hilly area of that State. Why else the 4 x 4, and the Jeep frame/suspension? Hence the rear ends ratio will be less than optimum for good gas mileage due to the vehicle's weight, transmission & rear ends gear ratios for hill climbing and deep snow conditions. I've owned several 4 x 4's and they are gas guzzlers due to the extra weight, but 2 were V8s and one   was a V6. My previous comments were a reflection of my transport driving experiences. The owner/operators or administrators will order the power units based on the duty expected to be encountered. When hauling max. gross loads over rougher roads, the gearing ratios will reflect that, and lower fuel mileage will be built into the job bids. But if you are hauling light weight freight over high speed highways with good pavement the ratios, engine sizes, and gearing with be more fuel efficient! Even lighter weight suspensions make a difference. Plus there is another hidden factor. Diesel fuel is a blend of Kerosene, and Light Gas Oils which is blended differently for Winter versus Summer, and for heavier loads. I knew the difference between the 50-50% and the 70-30% when drawing max gross cargo! Some engines are designed to use 100% stove oil, but the MPG are not as good, yet it maybe much cheaper fuel! The things to be aware of are numerous if you want to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges! It is not just a simple tweak to the fuel pump/computer controller! And another thing is the warranty conditions that are void if you mess with the original set up!

What is the rear end gears ratio? If it is geared for a much gutsier V8, then it will not give good gas mileage if it only has a 4 cylinder gutless wonder engine. Engine size, plus transmission and rear end gear ratios all have to be matched for the type of service it is expected to see. Engine RPM is also a factor. It has to be driven at the optimum engine operating speed to yield the lowest possible MPG. Idling times can factor in, too, if they are excessive! Plus if the gas tank cap does not lock, and a thief with a siphon hose raids it regularly in the night, that too is a serious MPG killer! 4 x 4s are not known for being fuel efficient, and they are heavier, too!

I would think it would of been copyrighted by now.
And its also known that Searching Thru the registrar is a BIT of a pain..
That is what you pay for a patent law firm to do! I have gone to Ottawa, Ont. and searched for a patent that would have over ruled my idea, but going to Washington, DC to search is a much more formidable task! Plus you and I as not legal trained specialists would not recognize the finer points of a similar patent that has been accepted or others that have been denied!
[I never followed through with my idea...cost of mfg and installation, plus industry acceptance!]

So why not design, build, copyright, and market your own system? If you are correct, then maybe you can make a bundle of money. If not, you will have had the fun of trying, and learned why they don't do it your way!

I really don't know how to get precise valid statistics in this scenario! Specifically in Canada, collection of that type of data regards criminally charged perps has been banned by our incompetent politicians, especially where it pertains to race, but religion is not far behind!
The point I was trying to make, and not very well written, was that generally there is a natural distribution of criminal acts perpetrated by all categories of Homo stupidous. There is a parallel analogous situation when it comes to elections signs in Canada, particularly in Federal campaigns. The vandalism and theft of lawn/boulevard advertising is directed mainly at the Liberals, but not excluding the NDP, and also rans. It includes serious criminal vandalism to private automobiles involving damage to brake lines! It is thus suspected that the perps are right wing supporters of the Conservatives, since their signs are by and large left intact! But with out arrests, prosecutions, and convictions this remains only speculation, not hard statistical data! I will avoid the robo calls scene, since it has only been partly dealt with in the courts and not satisfactorily in many peoples minds!

Scotty, prove that statistics for criminal acts are more prone to be by Christians! I think you will find that the perp facts are well distributed amongst all persuasions, and ilk! Prove your point with published creditable research, please!

  I HAVE RE-CONTEXTUALIZED, quote Bobbobboo
Come on, that is baffle gab! You have been in the ?civil service too long, Capt. Bobbobboo!
As for deleting the reference vials, why when they are stored in a secure level 5 lab? Those and other pathogens like the Ebola virus, SARS, and this new related corona SARS like virus, etc., need to be studied. And again I caution, these disease vectors arose naturally, and therefor can reoccur naturally. Don't handcuff the scientists unnecessarily! If you have a PhD in microbiology majoring in highly contagious deadly diseases, then I might reconsider, but not until I know you know the specifics of what you are talking about!
For example, if a new technique of analyzing such organisms is developed, then these specimens are required!

Questions:
-why does it have to be an open letter? Sometimes private communications, especially at that level gets more accomplished!
-why destroy vials of specimens securely stored? If and when  new outbreak occurs, it is useful to compare the new strain with prior specimens, especially when it comes to efficacy of trial drugs/antibiotics/innoculants of weakened live pathogens, etc.
-why should anyone expect everyone else to comprehend what one writes in the way the author thinks s/he has written it? Judging by the disconnects over the many threads, I can appreciate why the struggle with the dictionaries!!! Maybe we need a "Mindmeld" Scotty, before the Alzheimers takes hold! Or just beam the problem up! ha ha aha

Partial quote: [Scott] "
No. I can show that if we fail to do so we will stop burning fossil fuels by humans going extinct. " unquote.
That is an accurate prediction, since it is projected that all species of living biota will at some point in the future become extirpated, extinct, and obliterated! [due to the eventuality of our Sun star's projected evolution to a Red Giant status encompassing the inner Planets]
That aside, in the mean time, most of the life forms that are known and have existed on this Third Rock from the Sun will have extincted {if that is a word.....check yer dishunery Bobbobo} due to other less catastrophic events.
{Bobbobboblink, you missed the mark again. Skip is my cousin on my Mother's side. Tough trying to keep us royal bastard ignorant inbred hill billies separate, eh? I can trace directly back to Bloody Mary, Queen of Scots, but on the illegitimate branch!}
Getting back Mr.Moneybags, some where in this thread it was mentioned that his funds will run out at some point in the future. That in not likely, given the wise investments and strict use of interest generated only, in fact, by using less that the whole interest pot, it can remain adjusted for inflation, too!
If a letter is properly drafted, outlining a worthy project(s), if feel sure that Wm. Gates, would have it brought to his attention, and probably would respond appropriately. That is how I read his projected persona.
Regards eliminating any one or more diseases that afflict Homo stupidous, of course that would if successful, alter the course of our population history in the future. Polio has been nearly eradicated, and Small Pox is in the box, but for sake of argument, how did these pathogens arise in the first place? Could that history repeat itself? Take the many strains of
 E. coli. It is known that a certain very lethal strain only arises if the environment is "warped" by a type of pollution which promotes the mutation to that strain. Google the water pollution history of Walkerton, Ont. for the in depth study which verified that this does occur. Spreading municipal sewage on pasture land in which Cadmium metal ions are present, was cited as a significant contributor! The rest of the accidental contamination of the water supply wells is typical of where there is a domino effect from unsafe conditions which all came into play. Needless deaths and long term disabilities occurred due to human ignorance and errs. Some of my elderly distant relatives lived in that community, but I don't know how they fared!
Suggesting how a person of great wealth should spend any of that money, is not presumptuous when it is already known that individual is willing to consider such projects! It then becomes more a case of presenting a well thought out plan to effect a beneficial change to our circumstances regards something that afflicts our or other species well being.
I would suggest we ought to look into how to reform the diseases called politics and religion! And not necessarily in that order! {I don't tilt at wind mills, but it does have a theme to it}
