So, in order to get a beautiful view from your office, you'd be willing to destroy a beautiful natural place? How will the canyon look when there are 20 such structures? How about 200 or 2,000? Would you really want Snake River City? Snake River Mall?

Allowing one such structure would be the start. I bet thinking about it, you'd really rather be able to go there on your time off and not see huge office complexes built into the canyon walls, even if it means you don't get your office there.

If done Very nicely it could become an attraction.  If done WRONG you will have TONS of rock falling.
There arent allot of areas that can be HAD.
IF you create one at the BOTTOM of the cliff face, you would want a Landing area for boats.  At least above flood level.
If you do it at the TOP, you would look for areas NOT coming apart, and ready to FALL into the snake river.. Park on the roof.
The front FACE would be nice to have all Glass or leave it as ROCK, with a nice door in it..

Any way you do it, it would be hard to find and hard to get to..

I'm sure that would be every bit as lovely an addition to an otherwise pristine environment as the boathouses people have been building on pristine Adirondack lakes in NY are. Yecch! Can't we leave the few remaining beautiful places on the planet alone?

I understand what you are saying..
I would try to meld it into the background.

If I had a few extra choices I would hope to find a Spring in the cliff face to TAP for water, as well as use SOLAR power to heat the water, and claim abit of power for lighting.
Then I would think about an aquarium system (as was done by the creator for garfield) for the sewage reclamation..

You've got some good ideas there. City living and working is still far lower impact though. I'd personally rather have these places truly unspoiled though to visit on my time off than have them even slightly degraded and populated and be there all the time.

As to land/environment impact.
Umm, not quite.
There are good things about towns.  but not for cities.
New york/chicago SHIP their trash to other states, they cant find anywhere to bury it.
Towns are doing pretty good at dealing with SMALL problems..but the LARGE cities tend to have to many problems.
I also see where crowding TO MANY people in 1 area, ISNT GOOD.
we could discuss this till its DEAD. but the land use and Dis-use in large cities SUCKS.
NOW if we were talking about a City that was RENEWED, every few generations, I wouldnt mind.
TEAR it down and start OVER every 40-50 years. UP GRADE AND improve Everything as you go.
